What is Hycodan?

Hycodan is a cough suppressant.

Important information:

Hycodan can cause drug dependence and produces respiratory depression.

Before taking Hycodan:

Let your doctor know if you have allergies to hydrocodone, taking other medication, have respiratory issues, glaucoma, history for alcohol or drug addiction, liver or kidney disease, stomach issues or are pregnant.

How should I take Hycodan?

Take as prescribed. Hycodan can be taken with food or milk to minimize any gastric upset. Take the tablet whole. Do not open, crush, dissolve or chew it.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember providing it isn’t too close to your next dose. Otherwise, wait to take the next scheduled dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 911.

What should I avoid while taking Hycodan?

Avoid driving or operating machinery. Also be sure to stand up or sit up slowly. Avoid drinking any alcoholic beverages.

What are Hycodan’s side effects?

Dizziness, confusion, headache, unusual dreams, blurred vision, respiratory depression, constipation, nausea and vomiting.

What is the dosing information for Hycodan?

Adults: One tablet or one teaspoon of syrup every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 6 tablets or 6 teaspoons in 24 hours.

Children 6-12 years: One-half tablet or one-half teaspoonful of the syrup every 4- 6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 3 tablets or 3 teaspoons in 24 hours.

What other drugs will affect Hycodan?

MAO inhibitors, antihistamines, sedatives, other opioids, and analgesics.
