Seconal

What is Seconal?

Seconal or secobarbitol is a barbiturate used for treating sleep disorders. It can also be used to sedate someone about to receive anesthesia before surgery. It affects the central nervous system, and can sedate someone or put them to sleep.

How should I take Seconal?

Seconal is taken orally.

What happens if I miss a dose?

If the patient forgets to take a dose, they should take it as soon as they remember. If it is almost time to take the next dosage, however, the patient should take just that one dose. They should not take a double dose unless the doctor advises them to do so.

What happens if I overdose?

Overdosing on Seconal can cause unconsciousness, slurred speech, trouble breathing and walking. It should be treated as a medical emergency.

Seconal’s side effects:

The main side effect associated with Seconal is drowsiness. The patient should not drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks until they know how severely the Seconal will affect them. Since Seconal can be addictive, the patient needs to be careful to not take it for a longer time than prescribed. They should also take care to stick to the recommended dosage.

What other drugs will affect Seconal?

Seconal can interact with other drugs including oral contraceptives, beta-blockers, corticosteroids, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), and anticoagulants. Some of these drugs increase the risk of side effects, and others have their effectiveness compromised by the Seconal. Combining Seconal with alcohol or other depressants like sleep aids can be dangerous.
