Subutex
What is Subtex?
Subutex is a prescription medicine that aims to treat opiod dependence by acting as a partial agonist-antagonist.
Important information:
Nobody should take this medication if they are allergic to any ingredient contained in Subutex, or if they are currently taking sodium oxybate (GHB).
Before taking this medicine:
Before taking Subutex, individuals need to let their physician know if they are pregnant (or planning to become pregnant), or are breastfeeding. It is also helpful for the physician to know if the patient has a history of drug or alcohol abuse, or any mental problems of note.
How should I take Subutex?
A Subutex tablet should be placed directly under the tongue, where it should remain until dissolved. If more than one table is prescribed, as many tablets as possible should be placed under the tongue together at one time.
What happens if I miss a dose?
If a dose of Subutex is missed, then it should be taken as soon as remembered. If the missed dose is discovered too near the next scheduled dose, then just wait until that next scheduled time. Double dosing of Subutex is to be avoided.
What Should I avoid While taking Subutex?
Due to its tendency to cause drowsiness or dizziness, users of this medication should avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in any type of dangerous activity. Alcohol should be avoided while taking Subutex as well.
Subutex side effects:
Possible side effects of Subutex include the chills, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausea, insomnia, vomiting, and sweating.
Subutex dosing information:
Subutex is to be administered only one time daily in its tablet form. Patients should follow the specific dosing and mg instructions provided by their physician.
What other drugs will affect Subutex?
Azole antifungals, HIV protease inhibitors, Benzodiazepines, Naltrexone, and Methodone have all been known to negatively interact with Subutex.
