Vicoprofen

What is Vicoprofen?

Vicoprofen is a medication that contains both ibuprofen and hydrocodone. It is an opioid medication. It works by reducing pain, fever and inflammation in the body.

Important information:

Vicoprofen is approved for short-term use only. It is indicated for acute pain. Vicoprofen is not designed to treat pain caused by chronic conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Vicoprofen is not for people who have asthma or are allergic to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Before taking this medicine:

It is important to note that Vicoprofen can increase your risk of stroke and heart attack. That is why you will need to tell your doctor if you have had a history of heart disease. Vicoprofen should not be used by people who are getting ready to undergo coronary bypass surgery. Furthermore, you should let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What happens if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, then you should skip that dose if it is almost time for your next one. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the poison control center or seek medical attention immediately if you overdose.

What should I avoid while taking Vicoprofen?

Aspirin and alcohol should be avoided while taking Vicoprofen. Let your doctor know if you are taking cold, allergy or any other pain medication.

Vicoprofen side effects:

Sweating, itching, constipation, nausea and insomnia are possible side effects. Rare, but serious side effects include anemia, liver problems, rapid heartbeat and stomach bleeding. Seek medical attention immediately if you have numbness or weakness on one side of the body, shortness of breath and slurred speech. Those could be signs of a stroke.

Vicoprofen dosing information:

You should take one tablet every four to six hours. Do not take more than five tablets in a 24 hour period.

What other drugs will affect Vicoprofen?

Let your doctor know if you are taking any other medications. Vicoprofen can interact with Methotrexate, Lithium, Coumadin, Prednisone.
