What is Ritalin?

Ritalin is a methylphenidate stimulant commonly used to treat ADD, ADHD and narcolepsy.

Important information:

Improper use of Ritalin can result in heart damage, dependency or death. Ritalin may be habit forming even when used correctly.

Before taking this medicine:

Ritalin is not recommended for people with certain conditions or those taking certain medications. It is unknown if Ritalin is harmful during pregnancy or nursing.

How should I take Ritalin?

You should take Ritalin only as prescribed by your physician. Ritalin is typically taken orally. Do not crush or chew tablets, as this can disrupt the drug’s timed release.

What happens if I miss a dose?

If you accidentally miss a dose, you can take the missed dose as long as it is before 6pm.

What happens if I overdose?

In the case of accidental overdose, immediately seek emergency medical attention. Ritalin overdose can be fatal.

What should I avoid while taking Ritalin?

It is recommended that you avoid alcohol while taking Ritalin and to exercise caution while driving.

Ritalin side effects:

Common side effects include changes to appetite, difficulty sleeping and increased heart rate. Less common symptoms include dizziness, headache, stomach pain and blurred vision.

Ritalin dosing information:

Your physician will determine the correct dosage. They may initially increase or decrease the dosage to find what works best for you.

What other drugs will affect Ritalin?

Certain medications may be affected by Ritalin, including antidepressants, seizure medications and blood thinners.
