Luminal

What is luminal?

Luminal is a barbiturate medication used to treat sleeplessness, anxiety, fear and certain kinds of seizures.

Important information:

Avoid taking luminal if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, or if you are also taking GHB. Do not take if you have porphyria.

Before taking this medicine:

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, have allergies, or suffer from depression. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications, or if you have liver or respiratory problems.

How should I take luminal?

Follow the instructions of your doctor. Luminal can be given as an injection either at a medical clinic or at home.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Do not suddenly change a dosage without consulting your doctor first. If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. Do not do two doses at once to make up for the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Contact a poison control center or emergency room. Signs that you have overdosed include extreme drowsiness, loss of consciousness, cold skin, and slow or rapid breathing.

What should I avoid while taking Luminal?

Do not mix luminal with alcohol or other medications that cause drowsiness.

Luminal side effects:

Agitation, dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, headaches, nausea, light-headedness, and slowed breathing.

You should consult your doctor about dosage amounts.

What other drugs will affect Luminal?

Alcohol, sleep aids and sedatives.
