What is Duragesic?

Duragesic is a fentanyl skin patch used to relieve severe chronic pain.

Important information:

Duragesic can be addictive and has a high potential for abuse.

Before taking this medicine:

Do not use Duragesic if you suffer from breathing problems.

How should I take Duregesic?

Apply the patch to clean, dry skin. Each patch lasts for 72 hours.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Apply a new patch as soon as you remember.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency care immediately. Overdoses can be fatal.

What should I avoid while using Duragesic?

Do not drink alcohol while using Duragesic. Do not drive until you have found out how Duragesic affects your thinking and reaction time.

Duragesic side effects:

Common side effects include loss of appetite, constipation, drowsiness, and insomnia. Severe side effects include slowed breathing and extreme drowsiness.

Duragesic dosing information:

One patch is to be applied every 72 hours. Different patches have different amounts of medication depending on the weight of the patient and the patient’s pain-relief needs.

What other drugs will affect Duragesic?

Duragesic should not be used if an MOA has been used within the last two weeks. Duragesic interacts with a large number of drugs. Inform your doctor of all of the medications that you take before taking Duragesic.
