Cocaine

What is Cocaine?

Cocaine is a stimulant that is used as a local anesthetic and vasoconstrictor for some head and neck procedures.

Important information:

Cocaine is very addictive and should only be used at the minimum effective dose. It is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women.

Before taking this medicine:

Tell your doctor about any other drugs you are taking.

How should I take Cocaine?

A doctor will not give you cocaine to self-administer.

What happens if I miss a dose?

You will not self-administer cocaine.

What happens if I overdose?

Overdose is unlikely when administered by a physician, but emergency measures are called for if it does.

What should I avoid while taking it?

Avoid being under the influence of alcohol during your procedure. The effects of cocaine will likely wear off before you are released after the procedure, so no further caution is needed.

Cocaine side effects:

Side effects at clinical doses include: dizziness, restlessness and euphoria.

Cocaine dosing information:

Cocaine is applied in a solution and should not be given a doses over 1 mg per kg.

What other drugs will affect Cocaine?

Ergot alkaloids and MAOI drugs may increase the effects of cocaine.
