Butorphanol

What is Butorphanol?

A narcotic analgesic used to treat and/or prevent moderate to severe pain.

Important information:

There is high risk of developing a dependence to Butorphanol; suddenly stopping this medication may cause withdrawal symptoms.

Before taking this medicine:

Tell your doctor if you have a significant personal or family medical history.

How should I take Butorphanol?

Usually prescribed as an injection; Follow the procedures exactly as shown by your health care provider.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as possible, but do not double-up. Resume taking prescribed dosage as normal.

What happens if I overdose?

Immediately call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest Emergency Department.

What should I avoid while taking Burtorphanol?

Do not drink alcohol; this may cause a dangerous interaction. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know it’s effects.

Burtorphanol side effects:

  • Confusion
  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Drowsiness
  • Sweating
  • Nausea

If side effects persist or are bothersome, contact your physician.

Burtorphanol dosing information:

Take only as prescribed by your physician.

What other drugs will affect Burtorphanol?

Do not use with other narcotics, tranquilizers, or muscle relaxants. Notify your doctor if taking any vitamins, supplements, herbs, or OTC medications.
